What is Windows 365? Announced Today

Windows 365 is a brand-new method to access a full-featured Windows operating system from any device, whether it’s a desktop, a laptop, or even a mobile device, according to Microsoft.

At the Inspire 2021 virtual conference, which is geared at partners, Microsoft announced the launch of Windows 365 on Wednesday.

The new service makes the notion of a cloud PC a reality, and it is Microsoft’s newest product for the remote working environment that has been increasingly popular since the outbreak of the coronavirus epidemic in the United States last year, among other things.

Windows 365 is intended to provide a comprehensive computing experience through a native app or Web browser on any device that has an active Internet connection, regardless of the operating system used.

Windows 365 is available for use.

As of August 2, Microsoft announced that Windows 365 will be made publicly available to organizations of all sizes.

It will be available from any device, including a Mac, an iPad, a Linux computer, and even a smartphone running Android.

There will be two cloud PC configurations available — Windows 365 Business and Windows 365 Enterprise — for customers to choose from. Pricing information, on the other hand, has not yet been released.

Windows 365 has several functions.

When it comes to Windows 365, Microsoft is aiming to provide an experience that looks, feels, and is secure in the same way as a regular Windows PC, but can be accessed from either a native app or a Web browser.

Using it, users will be able to access the full version of Windows 10 (or Windows 11, if it becomes ready) either straight from an app or through the Web browser.

The cloud will also provide users access to all of their programs and tools as well as their data and settings that they would normally have on their PC.

Despite of the Microsoft Cloud connection, you will be able to use Windows 365 while moving between various devices, and you will get the same experience regardless of which device you are using.

Because the service will be hosted in the cloud, there will be no performance variations when switching from a high-end device to a more basic one.

IT revolution through the new platform?

The Windows 365 platform, which is targeted at providing virtualization without the need for specialized IT support, complements Microsoft’s existing Azure Virtual Desktop service, which allows business clients to access Windows over the cloud.

Those in charge of information technology (IT) at a firm, on the other hand, may manage and deploy cloud PCs based on Windows 365 using the same tools that they use to manage physical PCs, according to Microsoft.

“Windows 365 is going to make a significant difference for organizations that wanted to experiment with virtualization but were unable to do so for a variety of reasons — perhaps because it was too expensive, too complex, or they lacked the necessary expertise in-house,” said Wangui McKlevey, General Manager of Microsoft 365.

In addition, Microsoft stated that Windows 365 will support corporate applications such as Microsoft 365, Dynamic 365, and Power Platform, among other things.

IT teams will be able to monitor cloud PCs provided by their businesses and implement management and security rules remotely from their devices using Microsoft Endpoint Manager, which will be integrated with Windows 365 soon.

Additionally, the Endpoint Statistics dashboard is included with Windows 365, which provides analytics as well as access to view the overall health of Internet connections throughout the network. Furthermore, a new Watchdog Service is available to allow IT teams to perform diagnostics.

Beyond providing remote access, Windows 365 is said to be built using a Zero Trust architecture, which is intended to solve some of the most pressing security concerns of the day.

It includes multi-factor authentication (MFA), which allows users to validate login or access attempts to the cloud PC through the use of integration with the Microsoft Azure Active Directory.

With the use of rules, it is also possible to delegate certain permissions such as licensing, device administration, and cloud PC administration to other users.

Additionally, you may utilize Microsoft Defender for Endpoint to provide even greater security.

All managed drives running Windows 365-based cloud PCs, as well as all stored data at rest, are encrypted, according to Microsoft. Additionally, all network traffic to and from the PCs is likewise encrypted.

The development of Windows 365 began far before the epidemic, with some references indicating that the first stages of development began as early as 2014.

The coronavirus epidemic, on the other hand, has allowed Microsoft to test the cloud-based service on a bigger scale than it would have otherwise been able to.

Additionally, the business established the pitch for its new service by switching over from Microsoft Office 365 to Microsoft 365 last year.
