How to turn off Find My iPhone feature on your iPhone?

The iPhone has a “Find My iPhone” feature which is quite handy nowadays. It allows you to track down your phone if it gets missing. The “Find My iPhone” feature also allows you to keep track of devices that aren’t part of the Apple ecosystem. This characteristic makes it a useful present for those of us who have a lot of things to keep track of.

If Find My iPhone is enabled and the device is online, you can visit iCloud.com. It will help you find the approximate location of your iPhone. One can also find their iPad, iPod touch, Mac, Apple Watch and AirPods. But that is only possible when “Find My iPhone” is set up properly.

To utilise the “Find My iPhone”, the user needs to first register an iCloud account. This will serve as the user’s Apple ID. The device that has to be tracked must be linked to the same Apple ID. The Location Services feature must be enabled on each device that has to be tracked for it to work.

There are, however, several circumstances in which you should disable this feature.

  • The most common case is selling, trading in or saying goodbye to your iPhone, if you’ve recently purchased a new phone. This will erase the phone from the list of devices linked to your account. This will prevent the subsequent owners from accessing personal information.
  • According to Apple’s support page, you should also disable the feature if you need to send your iPhone for service.
