Apple Metaverse ambition: Know what Apple CEO Said about Metaverse

Apple CEO Tim Cook recently shared his opinions on the metaverse and other similar technologies on the company’s blog. The Apple(s) metaverse, according to Apple CEO Tim Cook, has “a lot of potentials,” he said during the company’s first-quarter earnings conference call in 2022. Apple is also investing in the technology in accordance with this view, in order to reinforce it.

Cook’s words are one of the few hints to Apple’s position on the metaverse that have been released so far. Yes, the business is working on developing the world’s first mixed reality headgear, which should be available later this year. Cook, on the other hand, emphasised the widespread adoption of Apple’s ARKit framework among iOS applications as the foundation for the company’s metaverse efforts.

Apple(s) Metaverse

When asked about new and emerging technologies in answer to Morgan Stanley analyst Katy Huberty, Cook stated, as reported by 9to5Mac, that Apple is “always studying new and emerging technologies.” It is the Metaverse in particular that the people at Apple are really interested in, according to Cook. “We have 14,000 ARKit apps on the App Store,” says Apple, referring to the number of applications that allow consumers to interact with augmented reality. “We believe there is significant potential in this market and are investing accordingly,” Cook said.

Moreover, he discussed the decision of the firm, which is well-known for its inventions, to enter a new market. Specifically, according to Cook, Apple is looking for a location “at the convergence of hardware, software, and services.” He clarified that there are particular sectors in which Apple’s interest has been “more than aroused,” and that the business is making investments in those areas.

Cook provided an example, stating that Apple has boosted its expenditure on research and development. In a presentation to investors and analysts, Cook stated that “a significant amount of money is going towards things that aren’t on the market at this time.”

Apple’s aspirations for the metaverse

For all intents and purposes, it appears like Apple is one of the best-suited technological companies for pursuing the metaverse ideal. With its iPhones, iPads, MacBooks, and even Apple own chipsets, the business has already put in place a portion of the necessary enabling technology. The company expects to have the whole ecosystem for a metaverse available by the time it begins to develop its own mixed reality headsets. At the very least, the company expects to have the hardware ready.

Apple already has enormous pillars on which to build its software-based metaverse, which will be built on top of them. It has its own operating systems, such as iOS, iPadOS, and other similar systems. Then there’s its own collection of applications, which can be readily customised using technologies such as Apple ARKit to make them more suitable for a world of augmented and virtual reality. In the case of Apple’s mapping of the Earth through its Apple Maps application, this will be a tremendous aid in scaling any form of the metaverse.

Of course, there is still a great deal of work to be done on all sides. Although it is evident that Apple wishes to expand its presence in the market, there is little to no possibility that the company will not become a big participant in the area in the foreseeable future.
